A man who stabbed his nephew on the neck with a screwdriver told police officers ‘He deserved it’.

Kevin Gilroy, 54, of Coronation Crescent, Larkhall, narrowly avoided prison at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting the man to his injury during a struggle at a house in Birken Road, Larkhall, on August 27, 2022.

Sheriff Linda Nicolson imposed a 10-week electronic tagging order that confines Gilroy to his home between 8am and 6am each day.

The sheriff told him: “It’s fortunate there was no serious injury. You showed no remorse in your statement to the police.

“I’m prepared, given what’s in the social work report, to impose an alternative to custody.

“But if you fall to comply it’s highly likely there will be a custodial sentence.”
