Police officers who quizzed a barefoot pedestrian in Bellshill town centre found he was carrying a knife.
Mark Walsh, who appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, blamed cocaine for his odd behaviour.
The 44-year-old admitted having a bladed item without reasonable excuse in Main Street on March 12 last year.
Scott O’Connor, prosecuting, told the court: “Around 10am police were advised by the operators of public space CCTV that a male was walking barefoot down Bellshill Main Street.
“Officers attended to carry out a welfare check on the man. They searched him and found a kitchen knife in his waistband.”
Defence lawyer Ian Scott said Walsh, who admitted previous convictions, had “experienced hallucinations” that day.
Mr Scott explained: “Following his use of cocaine, he thought he was being pursued by someone.
“This might shed some light on his behaviour as it wasn’t the warmest of days to be barefoot.
“He has since taken steps to see a drugs counsellor every fortnight.”
Sheriff John Speir deferred sentence on Walsh, of Babylon Road, Bellshill, until next month for background reports.
