Could it be Prime Time in Dallas?

ARLINGTON, Texas — With Mike McCarthy out as Dallas Cowboys head coach, several names have come up as potential matches for the now-open position, and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is in the mix.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has reportedly been in talks with Sanders for the job, WFAA’s Joe Trahan confirmed.

Sources confirmed that no formal or informal interview has been scheduled, but both parties will likely continue talks.

In 2023, Sanders specifically told Sports Illustrated that he was not interested in coaching the Dallas Cowboys or any team in the NFL.

But Sanders is no stranger to Dallas. He helped lead the Cowboys to a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

Sanders started his coaching career in North Texas. First, he was head coach at Prime Prep, a now-defunct group of charter schools that Sanders co-founded in Dallas, Oak Cliff and Fort Worth. He also served as head coach at Triple A Academy, another prep school in Dallas that was eventually shut down. Sanders finished his high school coaching days as offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, where he got to coach his three sons: Shilo, Shadeur and Deion Jr.

Coach Prime notably signed on as head coach at Mississippi HBCU Jackson State University in 2020 and brought his sons with him. After the 2022 season, the University of Colorado hired Sanders, and the family moved to Boulder. Sanders holds a 40-18 college coaching record but is 0-3 in bowl games.

So, will it be “Prime Time” in Dallas? Only time will tell.
