After the release of ‘Beckham’ – David and Victoria‘s hit documentary limited series on Netflix in 2023 – the couple were re-aunched as the ‘90s and noughties’ power couple.
However, their success emphasised the negative media storm which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were caught in, after they released a similar show with their tell-all Netflix documentary ‘Harry & Meghan’.
The Beckhams’ show covered David’s journey from growing up in working-class South London to being a young star at Manchester Unity, captain of the England squad and half of one of the biggest celebrity couples in pop culture.
Similarly, Prince Harry and Meghan’s docuseries covered their courtship to their exit from royal life.
The six-part series was released in December 2022, more than two years after the Duke and Duchess signed their £82 million deal with the streaming platform.
When the show aired, the world tuned in to watch the estranged royal couple slam Buckingham Palace and their UK-based relations. Viewers were immediately hooked, and ‘Harry & Meghan’ soon became Netflix’s biggest documentary debut.
However unlike ‘Beckham’, the royal documentary did not manage to take the number one spot on the platform.
Soon after, Meghan and Harry saw their US favourability absolutely tank, and in only a matter of weeks.
After being released in December 2022, Prince Harry fell 45 points in the terms of public opinion in the US and Meghan tumbled 36 points, according to polling done by Redfield & Wilson for Newsweek.
Meanwhile, David and Victoria gained mass popularity following the release of their show with David gaining half a million social media followers.
As we previously reported, Google Trends data showed that the release of the sporting icon’s series saw a massive spike in associated searches, far outstripping the comparatively minor jump in search interest that accompanied the Harry & Meghan release.
Data from Rotten Tomatoes revealed that Beckham had an average audience score of 98 percent whilst Harry & Meghan had 19 percent.
We also previously reported that the Beckhams friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is ‘over’ after suspicion arose that the Beckhams might have leaked stories about Harry and Meghan.

These allegations were said to have happened in a tense phone call, which resulted in the friendship ending.
A source states: “David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK.”
Any making up now is so unlikely.”
The Beckhams were allegedly left “outraged”, leaving their relationship with the royal couple in tatters.
