You don’t need to be a particularly skilled lip reader to know exactly what Brendan Rodgers thought of his side’s attempts at defending Dundee‘s third goal.
The Dark Blues twice came from behind at Dens Park before taking a late lead through Aaron Donnelly’s header. Tony Docherty’s side refused to fold after former favourite Luke McCowan headed Celtic in front on his old stomping ground after just five minutes. A lightning break saw Oluwaseun Adewumi curl home a leveller to send the teams in all square at the break.
A close range Yang header had the champions in front again, but Dundee responded almost immediately as Josh Mulligan’s cross was deflected past Kasper Schmeichel by Cameron Carter-Vickers. The league leaders looked rattled and the Dee took full advantage as Donnelly rose highest from a corner to nod them into a deserved lead with just under 15 minutes left to play.
Auston Trusty, who had struggled all game with Simon Murray’s physical presence and plain old nuisance factor, left a lot to be desired in his defending. The American was outjumped and fairly easily held off by Donnelly as he got nowhere near the ball, leaving a simple enough header for the Northern Irishman.
And when the Sky cameras cut to the Celtic bench amid the home celebrations, Rodgers‘ assessment was clear as day to anyone watching. The Celtic boss clearly mouthed “weak as p***” in response to the goal, and won’t have been happy with. much of what he saw from his team on Tayside.
But just when it looked like a first defeat at Dens in 37 years, they got out of jail thanks to a stoppage time penalty. Mohamed Sylla’s outstretched arm blocked Kuhn’s shot and Arne Engels slotted home from 12 yards to salvage a point.
Well known Celtic fan and golf caddie Craig Connelly spotted what the Hoops boss was saying. One fellow punter replied: “Maybe, It’s a foul on Trusty but would want him to do better,” while another added: “True words pal.”
