Clyde boss Darren Young reckons Jordan Allan could have had a ‘pick of several clubs in the summer’ had he stayed until the end of this season.
Allan cut short a loan deal from Falkirk and has joined League One club Queen of the South, ostensibly on a loan deal until the end of this season, but with a view to a one-year deal thereafter.
The striker scored seven times for the Bully Wee under Young, adding to the two he netted previously this term, and the gaffer reckons Allan jumped the gun.
He said: “Jordan had the opportunity to stay full-time, it’s a year-and-a-half deal with Queen of the South.
“I understand he has to look after himself but if he had stayed with us, helped us, and maybe scored 15 or 20 goals he could maybe have had a pick of a number of teams, come the summer.
“But we’ve got the money there from his loan, and we’re actively speaking to clubs just now to see who we can get over the line.”
Meanwhile, Young faces a a fitness sweat over several Clyde stars, as injuries mount up at the League Two club.
Midfielder Robbie Leitch dislocated a shoulder during Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at East Fife, and Kyle Connell suffered a knee injury in his first game back since August.
Martin Rennie is a doubt for Friday’s clash at home to Edinburgh City, and midfielder Andy Murdoch’s loan spell from Ayr United is up, though Young is keen to extend that.
Arbroath have agreed to extend goalkeeper Robbie Hemfrey’s loan until the end of this season, so there is good news for the Bully Wee.
Young said: “Big Craig Howie and Darren Hynes came back, so that was a wee positive, then all of a sudden those two [Leitch and Connell] happened.
“Leitchy hopefully is not too bad, we’ll find out the full extent of that soon. Kyle we’re just waiting to find out how bad he is.
“We have another player who is looking doubtful. I don’t want to name him just now in case he makes it.
“We’re actively seeking to get bodies and replacements in. It’s one thing after another.
“We’ll also lose Andy Murdoch, his loan deal is up and he’s now away back to Ayr United, though we are pursuing that and want to keep him.
“He’s exploring whether he can get a move to full-time, but he knows we’re interested.
“We could maybe get a deal to keep him, especially with the number of bodies out.”
