Hearts have agreed a fee with Varnamo for Michael Steinwender who has now been given permission to fly to Scotland.
The Jambos have thrashed out a six figure fee to land the Austrian defender. It is believed that personal terms are also close to being concluded and the player is pencilled in to fly into Edinburgh on Sunday.
Hearts have turned to Steinwender after they agreed a £600,000 deal to sell Australian international centre-back Kye Rowles to DC United. Steinwender was flagged up through Hearts’ agreement with Jamestown Analytics. The Austrian only moved to Varnamo from TSV Hartberg in the summer for £250,000.
Hearts have already signed Jamie McCart and Elton Kabangu in this window. The Jambos have also held talks with Kazakhstan international winger Islam Chestokov over a potential move this month.
Hearts take on Brechin City in the Scottish Cup on Friday night at Glebe Park.
