Livingston matchwinner Robbie Fraser admitted he was ‘buzzing’ after marking his first start with a matchwinning first senior goal.

And the 21-year-old is hoping a successful spell in West Lothian can propel him into the Rangers picture when he returns to Ibrox next season.

The full-back was a threat all night as the Lions ended a run of three straight losses with a 2-1 win over Airdrie – with the Scotland young international firing home a 60th minute winner with a sweet strike from the edge of the box.

He said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. My emotions were all over the place. Man of the match, first goal, first start at home. It doesn’t get much better. I loved every minute of it. It’s my first senior goal.

“Getting the winner makes it sweeter. What a feeling. It was an important win, it’s been a tough little period for the group but the boys battled and showed we’re more than capable of getting out of a bad situation.

“I’m proud of the lads but it counts for nothing if we don’t build on it.”

As for his move away from Rangers, he said that while he was actively seeking more game time he didn’t wish to rock the boat at Ibrox.

But after a fast start to life in West Lothian, he’s keen to build on that and then take the momentum back to his parent club for next season.

He said: “I had it in my head that I wanted more minutes but I didn’t go to my parent club and say I want minutes, I just kept chipping away and got a couple of opportunities.

“The gaffer then contacted me and my agent and within a few days it was done quite quickly. I came in and met the gaffer, saw the facilities and was in training a couple of days later.

“Of course, it was great being involved at Rangers, I had some huge minutes which I’m very proud of and very grateful for but I’ve come here to try to rack up games and really show what I’m about. I want to show that I’m more than capable of stepping in at Rangers when I go back.

“I’ve got five months now to really show all the qualities I have and hopefully the club see that but I can just focus on trying to do my best in training and games.”

Having seemingly got their promotion bid back on track after a losing run, Fraser is now targeting a Scottish Cup top flight scalp as they travel to Ross County on Saturday.

He said: “It’s in the cup but it’s against a team in the league that we want to be in and we’re pushing for. We want to test ourselves.

“We feel we’re more than capable of getting up to that league but it’s a knockout tie and we’ll go full pelt to win the game.”
