During a candid chat on her chat show, Lorraine Kelly admitted that a “patch” on her bottom “changed” her life.
The Scottish host was chatting to Dr Amir Khan about whether health patches “actually work” when she made the health admission.
She began: “Now, asking for a friend, what about anti-hangover patches?”
Dr Amir laughed as he replied “I am sure you are asking for a friend.. Again I am really sorry to burst people’s bubbles.
“These patches have vitamins, they have minerals and anti-oxidants, they say they are going to cure your hangover, it is nonsense.”
He added: “Hangovers are caused because you are dehydrated, you haven’t slept properly because of the effects of alcohol and that your blood sugars are low.
“So what you need to do to cure a hangover, there is no quick fix, you either drink lots of water or drinks with electrolytes in, have a nap, and have a fry up to get your sugars back up. That is the cure for a hangover.”
“Absolutely,” Lorraine agreed before stating: “Some patches actually do work. I have got an HRT patch on my bottom as we speak and it has change my life. So somethings do actually work.”
This isn’t the first time Lorraine has opened up about the menopause, as she often discusses it on her show.
In a previous interview with Lisa Snowdon, Lorraine admitted she “lost herself” before going on HRT.
“Honestly, the HRT patch on my bottom has changed my life, and so quickly as well, Lisa,” she explained.
“It didn’t take too long. I honestly thought I was losing it. I lost myself. I was flat. No joy. Nothing was going right, and then I went and got help. I know HRT is not for everyone. But please don’t dismiss it.”
As stated by the NHS: “Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment to relieve symptoms of the menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause.”
There are various ways of taking HRT, including tablets, skin patches, gels and vaginal creams, pessaries, or rings, and these treatments hope to help relieve symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, reduced sex drive, and more.
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
