Dumfries and Galloway rugby star Stafford McDowall has been named in the Scotland squad for this year’s Guinness Six Nations.

The 26-year-old from Dundrennan is part of Gregor Townsend’s 37-man pool for this year’s championship, which begins against Italy at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on February 8.

McDowall currently has eight Scotland caps and was co-captain for the national side’s win over Canada on last year’s summer tour.

He has impressed playing for Glasgow Warriors in recent years, captaining the side at times, and in November signed a new, three-year contract with the Scotstoun side.

And last year he also helped the Warriors win the BKT United Rugby Championship.
