The Traitors is back on screens and a Scots contestant is already being tipped as a favourite to win.

Friday’s instalment showed just how quickly this series can turn on its head, as Dan was banished at the roundtable despite largely going without suspicion in the first five episodes.

One of this year’s contenders who stands a chance for the final already is Scots care home manager Alex Oleksy.

The team at Online Betting Guide (OLBG) have the North Berwick native as among the bookies’ favourite to win, with an implied probability chance of 20 per cent and theoretical probability odds of 4/1 – putting him just behind fan favourite Minah, with an implied probability chance of 66.7 per cent.

Despite his strong Scottish lilt, fans have been slightly confused about his hometown as he’s billed by the BBC as being from Whitby. But the Record has solved the mystery, as the BBC simply list people as being from the place they currently reside in – meaning he’s not putting on any Scottish accent, as some fan theories have been suggesting!

Lets take a look into the life of this Scots Traitors star and why he’s taking part…

Who is Alex Oleksy and why is he saying he’s from Whitby?

Alex, 30, was born and bred in North Berwick. He’s worked in adult social care since the age of 17 and now works as a care home manager in Yorkshire.

The Scot lived in his East Lothian hometown for all of his life until he found love and moved to Whitby four years ago to be with his girlfriend, who is now his wife, though he’s keeping her identity close to his chest so far.

The Traitors star is known to love his new life down in England, but the Record has it on good authority that he travels regularly back up the road “to see his mum”.

Alex has been keeping as low a profile on social media as he has been on The Traitors so far – with a private Instagram account that has 1,033 followers.

His bio states: “Frequent user of the words cripes and jeezo. All about that peace and love man. The Traitors – Series 3 Cast.”

Over on TikTok, where he goes under the handle wee_ecky, he’s a bit more active, with two Traitors related-posts popping up over the past couple of days.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of the Traitors’ launch, Alex said he believed himself to be “a funny, silly sort of character that people take at face value quite a lot”. And his quirky side can definitely be seen thanks to his undeniable love for bright hair colours, and his humorous TikTok antics.

Alex plans to use his share of the £120,000 cash pot prize on IVF treatment if he wins and told the BBC before he arrived at the Highlands castle that he’d been encouraged to apply by his mother-in-law.

He said: “Well, the first time that I watched the show, I thought the whole concept was so cool. Psychological warfare AND a game show.

“I watched it with my mother-in-law, and she said ‘I think you’d be really good at this’. I mulled it over, watched the second season, and had seen that you could apply for the next. And I thought, “you know what, I think I’m going to do that.”

He added: “Me and my wife aren’t able to have biological children and it’s obviously very expensive to start IVF so that would be the first thing on the list.

“I’m desperate to be a dad, I’m just a big kid and just always wanted to be a dad.

“So that will be first on the list. And then just boring stuff, pay off debt, take my family on a holiday, all that sort of stuff. You know, give them a bit of a treat.”

BBC’s The Traitors returned for its third season on New Year’s Day, with 25 contestants hoping to bag their share of the £120K prize pot.

Alex is one of 12 remaining Faithfuls who are trying to fish out the two remaining Traitors, Minah and Linda, among the group.

Fans are waiting in anticipation for the latest episode of the show, which will return to screens tonight to find out who will be leaving the programme next.

Luckily Alex avoided the wrath of the Traitors at the last round table, although multiple players have become suspicious of him as he was voted a number of times.

But will he be so lucky next time?
