RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Former Virginia Tech star Michael Vick is headed to the College Football Hall of Fame.
He is one of 18 players and four coaches announced Wednesday to be in the Class of 2025.
“Today’s announcement shines a light on the accomplishments of some of college football’s greatest legends, and we are grateful to everyone who has played a role in today’s announcement,” said National Football Foundation President & CEO Steve Hatchell.
Vick’s coach while at Virginia Tech in 1999 and 2000, Frank Beamer, was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2018.
“Michael revolutionized the quarterback position with his combination of speed, accuracy, and big, strong arm,” said Beamer. “He inspired a new generation of dual-threat quarterbacks.”
Vick’s highlights while at Virginia Tech include:
- Leading the nation in passing efficiency
- Finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting
- Claiming the ESPY as the top college football player
- Helping the Hokies finish second in the nation in 1999 and sixth in 2000. The Hokies posted a 22-2 record in those two years.
- Two-time All-Big East performer
- Big East Offensive Player of the Year and the Big East Rookie of the Year in 1999
Vick was selected first in the NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He was a four-time Pro Bowler in 13 seasons for Atlanta, Philadelphia, the New York Jets and Pittsburgh.
He was recently named the head coach of Norfolk State University.
Vick served 18 months in federal prison in the prime of his career after pleading guilty to his role in a dogfighting ring. After his release in 2009, he returned to the NFL and won AP Comeback Player of the Year with the Eagles in 2010.
He retired in 2017 and has advocated against animal cruelty while also working as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports.
The 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino Las Vegas in December.
