ELGIN, Texas — Bastrop County is canceling its walk to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
The walk, organized by the cities of Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville, was supposed to happen in Bastrop on Monday, Jan. 20.
Organizers say they expect the weather to be too bad to hold the walk, but their scholarship program will still take place, as well as the celebration and presentation. That program will happen at the Bastrop Convention Center at 11 a.m.
“We warmly invite you to join us in honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” organizers said. “This event not only celebrates his contributions but also raises essential funds for scholarships benefiting students from six high schools in Bastrop County: Colorado River Collegiate Academy, Bastrop, Smithville, Elgin, Cedar Creek and McDade High Schools. Your participation is crucial in helping us support these deserving students!”
If you can’t attend but would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, you are asked to send them to the Bastrop MLK Scholarship Committee and specify which high school you wish to support:
