OURAY COUNTY, Colo. (Gray News) – A woman found her husband dead in three feet of snow after an avalanche in Colorado.

According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, a woman contacted the Ouray County Sheriff’s Office when her husband, who went skiing, did not check in with her as planned.

The woman went to the trailhead to look for him and saw there had been an avalanche. She did a transceiver search and found her husband’s body under three feet of snow.

The center said the man was wearing an avalanche rescue transceiver and an avalanche airbag backpack that had not been deployed.

The man, identified as 57-year-old Donald Moden Jr., was a former member of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team.
