MANOR, Texas — A Manor ISD student is in custody for falsely reporting a classroom fire.
According to authorities, multiple agencies responded to Manor High School on Thursday after the student reported the fire.
District police, Travis County Emergency Services District 12 and the Manor Police Department all responded to the high school to investigate. Authorities later learned the student called 911 during a scheduled fire drill at the school. They were then taken into custody.
According to the district, since the call happened during the drill, campus operations saw minimal impacts. The student also now faces legal and disciplinary action following the fake 911 call.
The district asks the community to remind students about using 911 responsibly. False 911 reports not only bring significant consequences to those involved but hinder first responders from attending real emergencies and take away important resources from campuses.
