Session Two
Luke Humphries vs Nathan Aspinall
Deposed as World Champion by Littler, Cool Hand remains World No.1 and his performance was stunning in the first game against Abdulla Saeed as he won 6-0 in 11 minutes, didn’t miss a dart at a double and hit three ton-plus finishes. Popular Aspinall is determined to make the most of opportunities such as the World Series and was strong in defeating Xiaochen Zong in the final game of night one.
Stephen Bunting vs Chris Dobey
Bunting is up to World No.5 and had to show some of best skills in scoring and finishing to see off the determined challenge of Nitin Kumar on the opening night. The Geordie did not have any issues as he dismantled local qualifier Basem Mahmood on night one with some high scoring and smooth finishing.
Luke Littler vs Gerwyn Price
The newly-crowned champion of the world was not at his blistering best in defeat of Lourence Ilagan in his first outing of the title defence. By the same token, the Welshman wasn’t impressed by his own display in the first round win over Lok Yin Lee and has vowed to change back to his old equipment for the crunch. Both players are sure to deliver better.
Peter Wright vs Paulo Nebrida
Snakebite showed glimpses of the improved form displayed at the Worlds on his way to the last-eight during his last 16 success over the eccentric Alexis Toylo. Nebrida produced the shock of the first day when becoming the first-ever Asian ace to beat a PDC ace in the World Series with his stunning win over Rob Cross. He will be dangerous for the Scot.
