WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Outlander.

Outlander season eight will spell the end of the iconic Scottish drama, wrapping up Jamie and Claire Fraser’s love story once and for all.

Outlander season seven is almost over with just the finale left to come out on Friday, January 17, on Starz in the US and MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK.

Following this episode, there will be one last season for fans to dig their teeth into with Outlander renewed for an eighth and final series back in January 2023.

Filming for the upcoming series started in early 2024 and was wrapped up in Scotland by September with actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe taking to Instagram to announce the cameras had stopped rolling.

They wrote: “Words cannot express the gratitude owed to each and every hard-working cast and crew member who brought this incredible series to life and every single fan who supports it with passion, creativity, and dedication.

“Outlander really is more than just a show, it’s a family, and while filming might be ending, there’s so much more to this journey that’s just beginning.”

So far, an official release date for Outlander season eight hasn’t been announced but it is expected to come out later this year.

Series seven was based on author Diana Gabaldon’s sixth and seventh books in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes and An Echo in My Bones.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed season eight, which is going to be made up of 10 episodes, is likely be adapted from books eight and nine, entitled Written In My Own Heart’s Blood and Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, respectively.

Gabaldon is currently working on this 10th book though so the endings of the show and the novel series could differ as a result.

It has been reported that the Revoluntionary War is going to be in full swing with Jamie and Claire somehow caught up in the fighting, while Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) try to find their place again in the 18th Century.

Also, love is expected to be on the horizon again for Young Ian (John Bell) with him either to be married or engaged in the eighth outing.

What’s even more exciting is the fact that Gabaldon wrote series eight’s penultimate episode and had some input into the grand finale.

She commented: “I think the show overall has been spectacular, and am happy to see it end gracefully.”
