A stretch of a major Dumfries and Galloway road is set to be closed for a full weekend for resurfacing.

The section of the A75 near Eastriggs will also be subject to overnight closures while Amey is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The work is scheduled to begin with a full closure from 8pm on Friday, January 31 to 6am on Monday, February 3.

There will then be overnight closures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.

An Amey spokeswoman said: “The safety of our workforce, the site, and the travelling public is of utmost importance when planning road maintenance.

“A convoy system cannot be implemented during this scheme due to available road widths, which fall below the legal requirements to ensure the safety of road users and road workers.

“A closure of the A75 trunk road is also required due to the depth of treatment being carried out.”

Traffic heading east will take the B6357 Stapleton Road after Annan before turning onto the B721.

Drivers will continue through Eastriggs and rejoin the A75 west of Gretna.

Motorists heading west will follow the same route in reverse.
