A kitten has been found dead in North Lanarkshire after it was left abandoned in a woodland area.
The pet was dumped in an open-top wicker-type basket with a grey blanket and soft toy in the undergrowth at Foulburn Road in Shotts. The animal, believed to be female, was tragically found on Thursday January 16 with cold meat lodged in her throat, emaciated and with faeces all over her back end.
Following the incident, the Scottish SPCA is pleading with the public not to abandon animals and instead research other options. The animal welfare charity also appealed for information on the kitten – which is believed to have been alive when dumped.
Scottish SPCA inspector Steph McCrossan said: “We can’t stress enough that there is no excuse to abandon an animal. There are always other options. The kitten, which we think is female, was most likely alive when she was dumped.
“Whoever left her had left some cold meat which tragically became lodged in the kitten’s throat. She was emaciated and had faeces all over her back end when she was found.
“With no CCTV in the area we are asking the public to help with any information. If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information surrounding her circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
