An musical Dumbarton fan has released his latest hit song as he aims to raise enough cash to safeguard his beloved club.

Musician Robert Ryan, from Helensburgh, released ‘Stand Up For The Sons!’ – his tribute to the stricken club.

Now, all proceeds raised from sales of the single will be given directly to the club’s fight for its very survival.

Dumbarton were plunged in to administration back in November following years of behind-the-scenes uncertainty.

Administrators – Glasgow based Quantuma – said that the move came “following the non-receipt of significant funds that were owed to the club from the sale of development land in 2021”.

Now, Robert – a Dumbarton faithful for five decades – is hoping his latest work can throw the club a lifeline.

With the song available for download for just £3, the proceeds – minus expenses – will then go towards safeguarding the club’s future beyond ths season.

The funds will go towards the Save our Sons (SOS) fundraiser on Go Fund Me.

To date, it has pulled in more than £103,000. It initially set out to raise £100,000 and smashed that target before Christmas. The new target of £130,000 was then set.

Speaking to the Lennox Herald, Robert said: “When I first heard about the administration, like many supporters I thought ‘what can I do to help?’.

“As a songwriter, I had an idea to write a song. I came up with the melody and lyrics in a day and then set about finding musicians and a recording studio.

“I contacted an old music teacher of mine, Ian McDonald who was delighted to help. He plays bass guitar, piano and Hammond organ on the song. Ian’s nephew, Peter McDonald, has a recording studio in Glasgow.

“He programmed the drums and mixed the song and he had a friend, Jon Huxtable, mastered the final mix.”

The song was featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland and was also played on Off The Ball by presenter Tam Cowan.

The song is available for download for £3. After hosting and Paypal fees, around £2.46 from each download will towards the fund.

“It’s a great way for people to donate a small amount”, Robert added.

“If people want to hear it before they buy, it’s on YouTube if you just search Stand Up For The Sons.”
