Musselburgh boss Liam Brown put Oli Shaw through pre-season this summer, and the striker hopes to ‘repay’ him by knocking the East of Scotland Premier Division leaders out of the Scottish Cup.

Shaw was nearing the end of his time at Barnsley when he took up Brown’s offer of coaching, before joining Accies on a three-year deal in July.

The former Hibs and Kilmarnock striker has bagged 14 goals in 25 games this season, and hopes that continues against Musselburgh in the fourth-round tie at New Douglas Park on Saturday.

Shaw said: “I know the manager there, a few of the boys I was at Hibs with as a youth, and a lot of the boys are from the area I;m from in Edinburgh, so I know a few of the boys there, and it will be good to see some familiar faces again.

“Liam does one-to-one coaching now, has his own coaching school in the off-season.

“He puts on sessions for professionals in pre-season and the off-season. In the summer I went with him, did my pre-season with him and a few other pros that were looking to do a bit extra.

“It will be a tough game, but I’m hoping to knock them out of the cup.

“In any cup competition you want to go as far as you can, and I want to score goals to help us get through the stages.

“It will be a tough game, and anything can happen in the cup, so we will need to be right at it. Hopefully we will be in the hat.

“We won’t underestimate them. They will have their threats, we’ll do our homework on them and train hard this week as we normally do to prepare properly, and we want to be in the next round.

“We’ll do anything we can to get through that, so let’s hope the result goes our way.”

Shaw is delighted to have hit double figures so far this term, and hopes to keep his run going.

He said: “I’m enjoying my football. When you’re enjoying your football, especially as a striker you’ve got a smile on your face.

“You can score goals, you’ve got a team around you and belief from the manager as well, so for me it has all come together nicely.”
