Snooker legend Stephen Hendry pulled out a sensational prediction as Sean Murphy hit an incredible 147 at the Masters.
The Magician raised the roof as he potted ball after ball after ball in the sixth frame at the Ally Pally. It is only the sixth time this maximum break has been witnessed at the Masters tournament. His opponent Mark Allen managed the feat in 2024 but even he was left clapping in awe at the remarkable shot sequence.
What was just as sensational was that co-commentator Hendry called the 147 after the second red of the play. In snooker, a 147 is a maximum break is the highest possible score in a single visit to the table. BBC pundit John Parrott said: “I am going to give praise to my esteemed colleague who called it after two reds. I thought oh don’t be silly and all of a sudden – the cue ball was just perfect.”
“Stephen [Hendry] was saying it on commentary – it was immaculate. It was so simple because it was immaculate. Everything about it was like ‘perfect, perfect, perfect’. He made it look that simple because his cue ball was so good.”
As played restarted one excited fan yelled “do it again”, drawing widespread laughs from the audience. One of Murphy or Allen is set to face one of either Judd Trump or Kyren Wilson who face off in the other semi-final on Saturday.
