Detectives are appealing for help from witnesses as they continue to probe an incident in Cambuslang after a man ‘set fire to a flat and jumped from the balcony’.
Police were first called to Mills Road at around 4.05pm on Thursday, January 16, after reports of an assault. Two females, aged 16 and 41, were allegedly assaulted in a property on the street. They were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
A man reportedly then barricaded himself in, before allegedly setting fire to the flat. Dramatic footage showed a man climbing over railings of a balcony at the home, before leaping from the property. Smoke could be seen billowing from the property while bystanders screamed in shock.
He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Several properties were evacuated as a precaution at the time and inquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Gary Smillie said: “The area was busy at the time and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident and who has not already spoken to police to contact us.
“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage or private CCTV which could assist to get in touch.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to the residents nearby who were impacted by this for their patience and cooperation and the other emergency services for their support.”
