LEWISBURG, W. Va. -In a Facebook post on Friday, the City of Lewisburg shared their sadness over the passing of John Manchester, who served as mayor for 16 years.
Manchester became a member of the Lewisburg planning commission in 2001 before serving on the City Council from 2001 to 2003. On July 1st of 2003, he was elected mayor where he served until his retirement on June 30th, 2019.
Manchester passed away in the morning of January 17th after a short illness.
In the Facebook post, the City of Lewisburg says, “Mayor Manchester was very dedicated to his community and his service in beautification and sidewalks are a huge staple piece to our city. We send our sincere heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
