PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. — A Bible that traveled with the next Vice President of the United States through his earliest days as a Marine at Parris Island will reappear at Monday’s inauguration ceremony.
According to the Trump Vance Inaugural Committee, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will use a family bible given to him by his maternal great-grandmother for the swearing-in ceremony. Officials said his “Mamaw” Bonnie presented the Bible to him on Sept. 22, 2003, when he left home for Parris Island, South Carolina, and became a Marine Corps recruit. The Bible is a King James version published by Thomas Nelson and Sons.
President-elect Donald Trump will use a Bible given to him by his mother to mark his Sunday Church Primary School Graduation (1953 Revised Standard Version) and the Lincoln Bible, which was first used in 1861.
Presidential inauguration changes
As of Friday afternoon, the inaugural plans were still changing as forecasts of dangerously cold weather moved the event indoors, according to the Associated Press, which cited CNN and Trump on the Truth Social platform. The AP reported that the Rotunda is prepared as the inclement weather alternative for each inauguration. Trump said the presidential parade would move indoors as well.
The National Weather Service projects temperatures, including wind chill, to be in the single digits.
According to Trump, those planning to attend the event can still watch it from Capital One Arena, which will host his “Victory Rally” on Sunday.
