AUSTIN, Texas — Steve Sarkisian will be staying on the Forty Acres.
According to reports, the Texas football head coach signed a contract extension with the University of Texas at Austin after declining interviews with two NFL teams. The deal was first reported by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy on Saturday.
It comes after Sarkisian agreed to four-year extension in 2024, which bumped his yearly salary to more than $10 million.
Sarkisian has now agreed to a new seven-year deal with the university, adding an extra year to his existing contract, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The extension reportedly includes a “significant” raise, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport.
UT Athletics Director Chis Del Conte seemed to confirm the news, posting a photo with Sarkisian on social media on Saturday. Sarkisian shared that photo with the words, “Hook ‘em.”

The Longhorns’ season ended last week after Sarkisian helped lead them to their second consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals appearance. It ended in a 28-14 defeat to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium.
Sarkisian has amassed a 38-17 record in four seasons at Texas.
