Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls have been recalled due to an allergy risk.

The product poses a risk to those intolerant or allergic to milk or milk constituents. Farmfoods customers are advised to check their freezer items, particularly if they’ve recently purchased frozen sausage rolls.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has declared an urgent product recall over labelling concerns involving savoury pastries. An FSA announcement warned: “David Wood Baking Ltd recalls Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls because of undeclared milk.”

According to the British Dietetic Association, allergic responses to milk can sometimes be delayed, implying that symptoms could appear sometime after ingestion. Immediate allergy symptoms could manifest as an itchy rash, hives, swelling, watery eyes, runny nose, coughing, and rare difficulty swallowing or breathing.

On the other hand, delayed reactions to milk allergy may include gastrointestinal issues like diarrhoea, constipation, severe vomiting, and mucus or blood in stools, along with nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, bouts of painful gas, and eczema flare-ups.

It is a mandatory legal requirement for companies to disclose the presence of cow’s milk — and other widespread allergens — in their products, normally emphasiesd in bold on the ingredient list.

However, this vital information was mistakenly omitted on labels of certain batches of Farmfoods’ sausage rolls, reports the Express.

To inform consumers about the recall, notices will be placed at the point-of-sale positions in all stores stocking this particular item.

Notices have been distributed to inform customers about the recall and provide guidance on what to do if they have purchased the product. Farmfoods advised: “If you have bought the above product and are allergic or intolerant to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store it was bought from for a full refund.”

The company also provided additional customer support details: “For more information, contact David Wood Baking Ltd on 07585400611 or [email protected].”

Other recent food recalls include an urgent warning issued to Lidl shoppers who recently purchased its Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge. A statement by the Food Standards Agency said that a potentially deadly bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes, is present in certain batches of the product.

Affected batches of the product include 150g packets sold in Lidl Northern Ireland stores. Their best-before date is May 11, 2025.

The FSA warned: “Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick, and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.”
