U.S. Representative Roger Williams says he has the votes to pass legislation.

DALLAS — On the eve of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, Congressman Roger Williams, R-Cleburne, said in the first 60 days, Americans can expect a focus on less government, permanent tax cuts, securing the border, energy policy and Ukraine.

“I think America will see a lot of things happen very, very quickly that will be positive and begin to get our country going again and to be the dominant player in the world in a lot of things,” the Republican told us on Inside Texas Politics.

After the inauguration, Congressman Williams’ attention will turn to legislation he filed that would make President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy permanent.

And he thinks the votes are there to pass it.

“What it basically says, Jason, is that if you’re going to cross illegally we’ll give you a court date for due process while you’re in Mexico not while you’re over here in the States,” explained the Congressman.

As chairman of the House Small Business Committee, and against the backdrop of President-elect Trump’s promise of mass deportations, Williams will have to balance the role migrants play for small businesses all across Texas and the rest of the nation.

The Republican said the country will need workers, but they need to do it legally.

“They need to come through the ports of entry, not between the ports of entry and do it the right way because we’re going to have an economy that’s going to go through the roof and we’re going to need workers. We need seasonal workers. And there’s a way to get that done,” the chairman argued. “It’s called legal behavior.”
