Scott McTominay’s latest goalscoring exploits for Napoli has got an obsessed Serie A lover comparing the midfielder to his legendary father.
The Tartan Army hero struck his sixth goal since joining Gli Azzuri in Saturday night’s 3-2 victory against Atalanta in Bergamo that has moved Antonio Conte’s side six points clear at the top of the table. McTominay and Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour have quickly hit the ground running in Serie A and there is now real hope that Napoli can lift the Scuedetto for the second time in two years.
But it’s the displays of ex Manchester United midfielder McTominay that has led one calcio fanatic to draw comparisons with his dad, former Roma and Brazil legend Falcao. The defensive midfielder helped Roma win one league title and two Coppa Italia’s during the 1980s, where he was christened with the nickname, “The Eighth King of Rome”.
Falcao was also a part of Brazil’s legendary team at the 1982 World Cup where he played alongside icons including Zico, Eder and Socrates and was named in the team of the tournament. And now the 71-year-old’s son Giuseppe admits he sees similarities in the way that McTominay plays to the much revered Selecao great.
Taking to X, he wrote: “I rarely talk about players from other teams. However there is one player in this Championship who drives me crazy and has been driving me crazy for a few years. He is Scottish and his name is Scott McTominay.
“A midfielder who can do everything. Physical, technical, he gets into spaces, he scores. Leader. Maybe the comparison is strong but he reminds me of a modern Falcao.
“A TOTAL midfielder. Jose Mourinho was not stupid when in the summer of 2023 he asked the club (Roma) to buy him… Tiago Pinto however took Renato Sanches from him!”
