Will Celtic get the win they need against Young Boys to secure their spot in the Champions League playoff round?
KEITH JACKSON: Yes. And they had better. Brendan Rodgers can do without going to Aston Villa needing a win to achieve his target. Young Boys haven’t coped with playing at this level and a fully charged Parkhead should blow them away.
ANDY NEWPORT: They really should do. The Swiss strugglers are not only rotten in Europe – sitting rock bottom of the Champions League table without a point – but they’ve got relegation concerns at home too. Should be a comfortable win for the Celts.
MICHAEL GANNON: They won’t get a better chance. Young Boys are out of the running and in dire straits in Switzerland. Celtic just need to be a bit more clinical and keep it tight the the back to see them off.
GAVIN BERRY: If they don’t then they don’t deserve to go through. They couldn’t have a better chance than a home game against the rock bottom side in the league phase who have just been held at home by the team bottom of their domestic league. It’s all there for them – and they will surely grab the chance.
Can Rangers cause a shock against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Europa League?
KEITH: Who knows? Rangers have made a habit of punching above their weight on Thursday nights. And United have been hit and miss under new boss Rubin Amorim. If Philippe Clement can get back up the road with a point then it would represent a terrific result for the Ibrox men.
ANDREW: The way this enigmatic Rangers side have gone about things lately, it would be no major surprise to see a team that has dropped points in Paisley, Motherwell, Leith and Dundee lately go to Theatre of Dreams and snatch a result against an awful Man United side. But they could do with their injury woes clearing before Thursday.
MICHAEL: Nothing would surprise you when it comes to Rangers in Europe. Man Utd should be too strong but they can be flakey and Gers are at their best on the counter attack. A score draw would be some result for Clement.
GAVIN: They’ve performed well away in the Europa League so there’s every chance but so much depends on what Man Utd side turns up. If it’s the one that battled to a draw at Anfield a couple of weeks ago then they’ll be too strong but if it’s the one that toiled against Southampton before Ibrox old boy Amada Diallo rescued them then they could be good for a draw at least.
It’s been a quiet transfer window so far in Scotland, who needs to get a move on with recruitment?
KEITH: Celtic have been working on bringing Kieran Tierney home for some considerable time now. They could do with getting that deal done and setting themselves up for the second half of the season.
ANDREW: Rangers have made one signing but Rafael Fernandez is an unknown quantity given his lack of senior minutes so Clement really could do with another experienced addition. Simo Valakari has started shaking things up at St Johnstone but still needs all the help he can get.
MICHAEL: St Johnstone need their defence bolstered, Hearts boss Neil Critchley needs more help and Motherwell’s injuries have left them requiring bodies. Celtic could do with a wide man to freshen up while Rangers could do with lightning the load on Hamza Igamane up top.
GAVIN: That’s the problem – Celtic have the title in the bag and Rangers will almost certainly get second. If either had been in doubt then their need would have been greater. It’s really rock bottom St Johnstone and Aberdeen who are in a fight for third who need reinforcements.
Where does Denis Law sit in the pantheon of Scottish greats?
KEITH: Recency bias probably plays a part in this one. For people of my own generation Kenny Dalglish will always be regarded as Scotland’s best ever. But the Lawman was Dalglish Mk I. And his Ballon D’Or provides proof that he was as good as it gets.
ANDREW: Splitting the Lawman from Kenny Dalglish is like asking a parent to choose their favourite child. Let’s just say that when we had that pair leading the line for Scotland, we were as blessed with talent as any nation on earth.
MICHAEL: Right up near the very top. Law was Scotland’s first world class superstar and he deserves to go down as one of the all time greats.
GAVIN:Sir Alex Ferguson said the best of all time and he’s not a bad judge. Without doubt, Law is the greatest goalscorer we have ever produced but Dalglish was probably a better all-round player.
