Chris Mochrie admits it was good to give the suffering Airdrie fans something to cheer about after he netted in their 5-1 Scottish Cup win over Dumbarton.
The strike makes it three in as many games for the former Dundee United kid – and he’s in no mood to see that streak come to an end.
Mochrie bagged the Diamonds’ third after winning possession from Mouhamed Niang near the bye-line then darting into the box and sweeping beyond Owen Hayward.
He said: “It’s a good win for us and I think it was something we needed. Hopefully we can take confidence from that and build on it.
“I was happy with my goal. I’ve been scoring a few recently and I’m just looking to keep that going but it’s good to get the win and good to give the fans something to cheer about.”
Given their lowly position in the Championship table, their trip to the Marbill Coaches Stadium had all the makings of a banana skin but early goals from Lewis McGrattan and Gavin Gallagher put the visitors firmly in control inside 10 minutes.
That was just what was needed to ease any nerves, admits Mochrie.
He said: “We all thought it was going to be a tough game and luckily we get an early goal and that’s settled us a bit and we kicked on from there.
“It was a good performance and win, it’s something we can hopefully build on and take into the league.
“The surface made it difficult. A lot of the time the better option was to go longer for balls to me and Ben (Wilson) to try and get on the end of and we were able to do that quite a few times and get in behind the back four.”
