This is the shocking moment when foodbank groceries were stolen outside a home in Edinburgh. Police have launched a probe after the incident happened on South East Circus Place at around 12.25pm on Saturday.
Ring doorbell footage shows the thief looking into the bag before making off with items in the New Torn area. Dad David says the collection was ‘clearly labelled’ and his son – who had collected the items as part of a school project – has been left gutted.
David told Edinburgh Live: “My nine-year-old son was collecting for a food bank as part of a school project and someone has come and stolen the lot, despite a sign out saying it was for a local food bank. Pupils were collecting food as part of a school project. Generous neighbours made donations over the last few days, only for the food to be stolen.”
He added: “At least we captured it on the ring doorbell. The basket and collection point was cleared labelled as a foodbank collection as part of school project. He’s upset that someone would take the food and supplies donated by friendly neighbours and will not reach those who need it most via the Edinburgh Food Project.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.50pm on Saturday, January 18, we received a report of a theft from outside a property in the South East Circus Place area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The donations were to be sent to the Edinburgh Food Project. You can find out more about the organisation here.
