A horror blaze on the A96 has caused traffic chaos after a van caught fire.
Emergency services raced to the A96 – South of Kintore, Aberdeenshire – just before 7.49am this morning after receiving reports that a van had gone up in flames. The vehicle was heading westbound on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.
Firefighters from two appliances and a specialist resources unit are currently battling the blaze which took place near the Broomhill roundabout.
The road remains closed in both directions as crews remain at the scene. One person was treated and released at scene. Traffic Scotland is urging motorists to avoid the area.
A statement on their website reads: “The A96 is closed in both directions at Broomhill roundabout, Kintore due to a vehicle fire. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route at this time and should allow extra time for their journey.”
Stagecoach also issued an update after having to cancel services to Blackburn. A statement posted on X read: “Due to the closure of the A96 near Kintore and the length of diversion required we will not be able to serve Blackburn until the road is re-opened. It is hoped the road will be open soon. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.49am on Wednesday, January 21, to reports of a van on fire on theA96 – South of Kintore.
“Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances and specialist resources to the scene and firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. There were no reported casualties and crews remain on scene.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 08:28 to attend an incident on the Broomhill Roundabout, A96. We dispatched two special operations response teams to the scene.”
