Storm Éowyn could bring gusts of wind of up to 90mph to Dumfries and Galloway on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a fresh yellow weather warning amid fears of power cuts, travel delays and “injuries and danger to life” from debris.

The warning covers all of Friday and continues until 3pm on Saturday, with winds expected to die down as the day goes on.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Storm Éowyn is expected to pass close to or across the northwest of the UK on Friday before clearing to the northeast on Saturday.

“Whilst there is some uncertainty in the track of Éowyn, a spell of very strong winds is likely, initially southeasterly before turning westerly, with peak gusts of 60-70mph inland and 80-90mph along some coasts and hills (perhaps even higher in a few locations).”

Forecasters say power cuts are “likely” and there are also expected to be delays to road and rail journeys.

Buildings and homes could be damaged, while large waves could result in debris from beaches being thrown onto coastal roads and properties.

The forecaster added: “Injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris.”
