A lack of a natural striker may have proven costly for Abbey Vale on Saturday as they crashed out of the South of Scotland Challege Cup.
They were knocked out after losing to Upper Annandale on penalties.
Uppers led at the break thanks to an own goal, which was cancelled out in the second half thanks to Dylan Bruce’s penalty.
However, Vale weren’t as successful from the spot when it came to the shootout as they lost 4-1.
Vale boss Allan Clark said: “We’re obviously disappointed with the final result.
“We were always in control of the game but we gave away a cheap goal to a mistake. We were lacking a striker due to injury and illness so I had to make a few changes and play someone up front who normally doesn’t play there.
“We had half chances, not any great chances, but I thought we completely controlled the game and should have never have been in danger of going to penalties. We should have had the game won in 90 minutes.”

Clark is hoping to have more striking options at his disposal on Saturday as his side hosts Mid Annandale and is also hoping for “positive news” in his efforts to boost his squad.
The visitors come into the game on a high after putting Creetown out of the cup on penalties.
Clark said: “It was a good result for them as Creetown have been going well. It’s going to be a hard game but we’ve got to fancy our chances of getting three points at home.”
