A man has been charged with road traffic offences relating to an e-scooter in Ayrshire.
On Friday, January 17, police in Irvine town centre seized an e-scooter that was allegedly “being ridden in an anti-social manner”.
A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and Police Scotland have issued a reminder to e-scooter riders that they are “not permitted on public roads, pavements or other public spaces”.
E-bike riders have also been reminded to ensure that they “meet the necessary legal standards” if using them in public spaces.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “On Friday, January 17, police seized an e-scooter in Irvine town centre that was being ridden in an anti-social manner. One male, aged 24, has been charged with various road traffic offences.
“A reminder that e-scooters are not permitted on public roads, pavements or other public spaces, as they do not meet the necessary legal standards. Whilst legal to buy, their use is only legal on private land with the landowner’s consent.
“Anyone found riding a non-compliant e-bike or e-scooter on a public road will likely have it seized by officers.
“Vehicles that do not meet legal requirements pose a serious safety risk – increasing the likelihood of injuries to both riders and other road users, particularly pedestrians.
“If you are buying an e-bike or e-scooter, check to ensure it complies with legal requirements.
“If you already own a powered transporter that does not meet these standards, please keep it off public spaces.”
