The SNP has posted a job advert for a new chief executive. The Nationalists have said they are looking for someone with “integrity and influence” ahead of next year’s Holyrood election.

Murray Foote stood down as the SNP chief executive in October after just over a year in the role. It followed the SNP’s poor performance at last year’s general election. The party dropped from 48 seats in 2019 to nine.

The SNP posted the job advert on LinkedIn. It said that “this is a defining moment in time for the SNP and our country”. It also said the new chief executive needs to have “significant leadership and management experience” and a “track record demonstrating your ability to deliver”.

The job advert lists the salary as “competitive”. Foote received a £95,000 salary when he accepted the job in summer 2023. Applicants are asked to submit a two-page cover letter and a CV by Sunday, February 9.

Former Daily Record editor Foote replaced Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell as chief executive in August 2023. Murrell had led the party for 22 years and was credited for its electoral success.

Sturgeon announced last week that she and Murrell had separated.
