More than 130 flights have been canceled or delayed due to icy conditions across Texas.

AUSTIN, Texas —

Dozens of flights at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport have been canceled Tuesday as winter weather brings snow and icy conditions to Central Texas and much of Texas.

The most affected flights connected Austin with other Texas cities, such as Houston, after the city’s major airports -George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby- shut down all flight operations starting at midnight Tuesday.

Travel to New Orleans has also been affected as parts of Louisiana are under Blizzard Warnings.

As of Tuesday morning, 69 flights have been canceled at Austin’s airport. Sixty-four flights have also been delayed due to weather.

Travelers are strongly advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport. Most airlines, including United, Delta, Southwest, American and others, are offering flexible rebooking options for affected passengers.

If you need an alternative, here are your options:

  • If possible, reschedule your flight for later in the week when weather conditions improve.
  • Consider ground transportation such as buses or rental cars. Travelers should exercise extreme caution due to potentially hazardous road conditions leaving Austin, also depending on the destination.
  • Explore train options, if available, which may be less affected by the weather.

Airport officials urge travelers to monitor the airport’s social media channels and website for the most up-to-date information.

The wintry precipitation may be done in Austin, but icy conditions will continue through at least Wednesday. Travelers should stay aware of weather updates and listen to local authorities regarding travel safety.
