At the top of the list, Texas reflected a high number of child abductions and school shootings.

In Texas, there were over 2,700 kidnappings involving children committed in the last 5 years, and there are an estimated 378 open missing children’s cases in the state. There were also 26 school shootings in Texas between 2018 and 2023.

The study calculated its information by looking at data from the FBI, the Gun Violence Archive, and the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Naval Postgraduate School’s K-12 School Shooting database.
