HOUSTON — George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Willian P. Hobby Airport will reopen Wednesday after being shut down Tuesday due to snow and sleet in Houston.
A Winter Storm Warning for Southeast Texas remains in effect through Tuesday at 6 p.m. Three to five inches of snow is expected across the Houston area, with higher totals possible.
Officials at IAH and Hobby said Tuesday morning that teams remained on site to prepare for when they can return to service. The airports closed late Monday at midnight in anticipation of the arctic blast.
Houston Airport System officials said airports are reopening Wednesday at 9 a.m.
TSA lines will open at 9 a.m. Arrival flights will begin at 10 a.m and departure flights will begin at 11 a.m. This information applies to both Bush and Hobby airports.
Airlines implemented their travel waiver programs, meaning travelers could go to their airline and change their flights without change fees, according to Houston Airport System Director Jim Szczesniak.
Please be aware that flights are temporarily suspended due to the weather conditions. We’re coordinating with airlines and closely monitoring the weather as our dedicated teams work to prepare for a safe resumption of service as soon as the weather permits. pic.twitter.com/k3nj3f9pFR
