Smiling Young Boys boss Giorgio Contini has vowed to get experimental – with rivals Celtic 90 minutes away from the Champions League knockouts.
The 51-year-old is aiming to leave no stone unturned in his quest to resuscitate the Swiss champions who are pointless in the world’s richest club tournament while languishing in ninth place in the Swiss Super League. And that means some wildcard selections could be in play in Glasgow’s east end. Celtic fans know a win will guarantee a place in the playoffs if other results go their way, however, three points against Young Boys will almost certainly be enough irrespective of results elsewhere for Brendan Rodgers‘ side.
But the Young Boys boss – appointed in December and a two-and-a-half year deal – concedes he is willing to think outside the box when he names his team to take on Celtic on judgement night for the Scottish Premiership kingpins in the Champions League. Speaking to Blick, Contini said: “It’s about gathering insights for the way forward. There will be changes so that there is a team on the pitch that gives me new insights. YB and I haven’t been together for long.”
But Contini is adamant they aren’t Glasgow for sightseeing and the side who sit at the bottom of the 36-team league table want to finish with a bang. He added: “It’s about pride, about points, about the coefficient, about reputation. We’ll do everything we can for 48 hours and prepare intensively to get points. Even if we know where the focus will be in the next few months.”
