Footage has captured the dramatic moment a four-storey building collapsed in Glasgow in front of horrified onlookers.
The video, taken by an eyewitness, shows a workman standing in front of the cordoned-off building on Hydepark street, near the River Clyde, on Wednesday. An almighty crack can be heard echoing through the street before the structure begins to collapse.
The worker can be seen staggering back in shock as the rubble spills out into the street. He then begins to run as bricks and and a huge cloud of dust begins pouring towards him.
People in the street can be heard gasping in horror as dirt and smoke cover the road.
It is understood the building was being demolished when it prematurely fell.
One eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Record: “I was working with my colleagues and happened to be passing by when I suddenly saw a guy throwing himself out of the first floor of the building.
“He shot himself out of the first floor just before the building started to crumble, he obviously knew that it was going to collapse.
“He must have jumped about 15ft to 20ft before the building came down.
“He had a limp but thankfully he was okay, I think he was more concerned about his BMW that was parked quite close.
“Before the building fell there was loud creaking noise.
“When it eventually collapsed there was an almighty thud, probably the biggest thud I had ever heard.
“I knew it was coming so I didn’t get much of a fright, but other people were scared for their lives.
“It was like something from an action or horror film.
“Dust then started to pour everywhere, we’re all caked in it from head to toe.
“The building is getting demolished anyway but it obviously wasn’t meant to go that way.
“I’m just glad that everyone seems to be okay.”
It is believed a van was crushed as a result of the incident. It is understood one person suffered a minor injury.
The cause of the building’s collapse is currently unknown. Hydepark Street has been closed off.
