Police have launched a probe after a car was torched while the owner was camping with friends in West Lothian.
Scott Kerr, 24, returned from the overnight trip at a wooded area in the Bathgate Hills to find his Ford Fiesta completely burnt out. The vehicle was parked on Limefield Road in the town and officers from Police Scotland have confirmed they are treating the blaze as “wilful”.
A picture taken by Scott after he discovered the car showed it to be completely destroyed by the blaze. He said: “My car was broken into and burnt out at the side of the road up the Bathgate Hills on Friday night whilst I was camping. I discovered the car at 12pm on Saturday afternoon.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was gobsmacked. My car was navy blue. My mate was asking where my car was. We got closer and realised that it was my car sitting there and it had been set on fire.
“I’m really angry this has happened and just looking to see if anyone has any information. Bathgate is a good place to live but I hear stories of senseless crime happening. It makes me annoyed that people think that’s acceptable.”
Cops say their enquiries are ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.15pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025, officers received a report of a burnt-out vehicle on Limefield Road, Bathgate. There were no reports of any injuries. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
