BLUEFIELD, Va. -During the first two weeks of the year, the Town of Bluefield’s Fincastle typically shuts down for minor cleaning. This year, however, they decided the improvements should be more extensive, taking aim at the carpet that used to line the restaurant’s floors.
“The carpet was very old, and I’m not sure that’s the best thing to have in a restaurant anyways…” says John O’Neal, the general manager of Fincastle, “…The high traffic that we’re getting, and being fortunate to have the high traffic and a lot of people coming to our restaurant, we felt like this flooring would be better and try to just improve and make this facility more welcoming and so the community will feel comfortable coming out and using it.
But that isn’t the only thing new in the restaurant. It has a new color for its walls and new tables and chairs purchased in North Carolina that were made by the Amish in Ohio. O’Neal says improvements have been on the menu at Fincastle for quite some time, with the building being only the latest example.
“I just think it means a more comfortable setting for the restaurant. You know, we did an upgrade on the golf course, we did an upgrade on the swimming pool, on the pond that’s on the golf course, all the way around, so, you know, inside here, the restaurant, it was well overdue…” says O’Neal.
The improvements have also extended downstairs, with carpeting removed into the golf shop as well. It also has a new floor and should be ready for golfers once the weather improves.
O’Neal credits the Town of Bluefield for their support with these improvements. He encourages people to come by to see the improvements for themselves and to try their variety of food options.
