METAIRIE, La. (Gray News) – Parts of Louisiana have received more snowfall from a recent storm than Anchorage, Alaska, has recorded since the beginning of winter, according to the National Weather Service.

That snowfall has led many residents along the Gulf Coast to find unique opportunities to make the most of the rare wintry weather.

In Metairie, Louisiana, several nuns and the Catholic priest at St. Catherine of Siena church took part in a snowball fight together.

“Snowball fight with the sisters!” the church wrote with a video posted on social media.

The winter storm that impacted the New Orleans area broke a snowfall record that was previously set in December 1963.
