The Traitors star Paul Gorton has shared an amusing behind-the-scenes moment from the show, involving host Claudia Winkleman breaking character.

Reflecting on his time on the show last year, Paul developed a strong alliance with contestant Harry Clark, aiming to outplay the Faithful.

His journey came to an end when Harry led his banishment in episode eight and then tricked Mollie Pearce to take the prize money. Paul disclosed the unforgettable moment he exposed his role as a Traitor during his appearance on the Off The Telly podcast.

He recounted as reported in the Mirror, “I got up and I did get a bit emotional. I was like ‘I love you all and this has been great’ and you know you feel a little lump coming because I know my time is done.”

His revelation in the show prompted a big reaction: “So as soon as I said I’m a Traitor, I’m not joking, but the room erupted and Claudia broke character. You see her face going ‘oh my God, this is great TV,’ she’s like ‘I’m going to be booked for the third season, a bit of cash’.”

Paul described his departure as his final act on the show, expressing gratitude for the experience, “So then I just felt like that’s my final moment, my final bow, my exit and off I go. I’m so glad I did it.”

Celebrities also weighed in on his memorable exit, with Gavin and Stacey actress Joanne Page saying, “It was incredible, incredible.” EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy adding, “It was great you did it.”

The gripping murder mystery game show pits two factions against each other—the Traitors and the Faithful—with a hefty prize of up to £120,000 on the line.

The Faithful have the power to exile a member daily, yet they also risk being “murdered” by the Traitors. The series has captivated both audiences and critics, with a staggering 10 million tuning in for the premiere episode.

A celebrity edition is already in the pipeline, and there’s buzz about a potential “all star” version. This would offer Paul an opportunity for retribution against his ex-ally Harry.

Speaking to the Daily Star on behalf of Heart Bingo, Paul shared his excitement about an All Stars edition: “I’m such an ambassador for the show and I would do anything for the show. Sign me up straight away and get Harry back in because I need some revenge on him.”

The Traitors makes its return tonight on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm, with the series finale scheduled for 8.30pm tomorrow night, revealing who will clinch the cash prize.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, enthused: “Series 3 of The Traitors has brought together an overwhelmingly faithful and growing audience, with more viewers being recruited for that ‘appointment to view’ watching, already at 10m watching episode one so far. It’s the perfect order for January viewing and this series has brought even more twists and turns to keep us all guessing.”
