Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly feeling “upset and bruised” in the wake of a critical Vanity Fair article that emerged last week, which suggested that “things aren’t good for them right now”.
The piece, entitled ‘Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Big Business Ambitions, 5 Years After Their Royal Exit’, took a close look at the Sussexes’ activities since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
It featured claims such as someone from Meghan’s camp considering a book deal post-divorce, and suggestions that Beyoncé turned down an offer to feature on Meghan’s podcast Archetypes, the Mirror reports.
The article also touched upon the notion of Harry being at ease with Meghan being the main earner, leaving the couple feeling “upset and bruised,” as per royal expert Kinsey Schofield during her conversation with Sky News Australia.
Schofield disclosed that the pair were particularly troubled by the publication, saying: “It is my understanding that they are upset over it [and] I’m being told that things aren’t good for them right now, between Meghan’s show being postponed, which I’ve heard was Netflix’s idea, and just the idea that she has worked so hard to rebrand herself and here comes a very respected publication reiterating some of the nastiest claims about her.”
She further commented: “So I think they are bruised and they’re sitting back trying to figure out how to process going forward.”
At a recent event discussing the couple’s response to the LA wildfires, Ms Schofield suggested that their actions might not have garnered the public empathy they had hoped for. Meghan’s new series, With Love, Meghan, is now set to premiere on March 4, following a reschedule from its original air date last week.
Prior to the initial launch, Meghan issued a statement regarding the postponement of her eight-part series: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
Netflix has revealed some of the show’s guests, such as Roy Choi, Mindy Kaling, and Alice Waters, hinting at “additional acclaimed chefs and special friends.”
As the producer of the show, Meghan’s vision is to combine “practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old,” as described by Netflix.
The streaming giant further stated: “Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection, and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected. She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”
