A Scots teen who died after a tree fell on a car during Storm Eowyn has been named locally. Calum Carmichael’s blue Ford Focus was struck by a tree on the B743 Ayr Road near Mauchline at 6.45am on Friday, January 24 while he was on his way to work.
The 19-year-old was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, but tragically died on Saturday. Tributes poured in for the popular teen from friends and family after the news of his tragic death.
Sister-in-law Yaz Hodge led tributes to the beloved teenager, saying: “No words can ever describe how our family feel. These past two days have been the worst moments of our lives.
“We are in what can only be described as a never ending nightmare and all we want to do is to wake up and have our beautiful boy safe, well and present by our sides.
“Calum, we love you so much and we promise to take care of each other and try to stay strong for you. I will forever be grateful for the 14 years I had with you and will treasure all our amazing memories together.
“How lucky I was to gain the best brother a sister in law could ever ask for. The most selfless, loving, kind hearted beautiful young man inside and out. Truly blessed to call you ours.
“If love could have saved you pal then you would have surely out lived us all!”
Seonad McCallum added: “Calum you were the best uncle my kids could ever have had and I will never thank you enough bro!”
A devastated Emilie Carmichael said: “Words can’t even describe how heartbroken I am. I have lost my true best friend. Calum you truly were one in a million couldn’t have asked for a better brother or a better bestfriend. Don’t know what I’m going to do without you! You were just a big jokester and hope everyone remembers that. Love you forever and a day buddy.”
Cali Campbell penned a heartfelt tribute, saying: “What a boy you were Calum. It was a pleasure to grow up alongside you, the nicest and most genuine soul, so many special memories. You will be sorely missed.”
Sergeant Chris McColm of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.”
