(Gray News) – Cynthia Erivo has a chance at becoming an EGOT winner after being nominated for an Oscar for her role as Elphaba Thropp in “Wicked.
EGOT stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony and is the designation given to people who win all four prestigious awards.
If 38-year-old Erivo wins the Oscar this year, she will become an EGOT winner and be the youngest to do it.
Erivo earned her second best actress Oscar nomination on Thursday. She was previously nominated in 2020 for best actress for her role in “Harriet” but did not win.
She has a Tony Award for best actress in a musical for playing Celie in “The Color Purple” on Broadway in 2016. She and “The Color Purple” cast won an Emmy in 2017 for outstanding musical performance in a daytime category. She also won a Grammy that year for best musical theater album for “The Color Purple.”
The exclusive list of EGOT winners includes Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis and Elton John.
“Wicked” received 10 Oscar nominations, including Ariana Grande’s best supporting actress nomination for her role as Galinda Upland.
The Oscars will air live on March 2 with Conan O’Brien as the host.
