Quiz Lady, previously exclusive to Disney+ subscribers, has broadened its reach after joining the BBC iPlayer catalogue. The comedy flick was initially distributed by Hulu in the US and made its streaming debut in 2023, even bagging an Emmy award for Outstanding Television Movie.
The plot centres on two estranged sisters, Anne and Jenny, who are compelled to join forces to settle their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s dog gets kidnapped, they’re left with no option but to scramble for the necessary funds.
Anne is a lifelong fan of a daily TV gameshow which she watches religiously every night. Upon discovering her sister’s knack for answering every question correctly, Jenny sees a golden opportunity: a cross-country trip to participate in the show themselves could be their ticket to the cash prize.
The star-studded cast features Sandra Oh and Awkwafina, alongside Tony Hale, Jason Schwartzman, and Ferrell as the host the fictional gameshow. Jessica Yu, known for directing episodes of hit series like This Is Us and Only Murders in the Building, helms the film, reports Surrey Live. The screenplay is the work of Jen D’Angelo, the writer behind Totally Killer and Hocus Pocus 2.
Quiz Lady has garnered positive reviews from both audiences and critics, boasting a solid 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One enthusiast shared: “Quiz Lady is sweet, funny and so very much enjoyable.
